Christmas in the Library

I love to decorate for Christmas!  Our school still allows trees and holiday decor, so I used them to create some interesting book displays for the library.  These pictures are just a sampling of the various holiday displays we placed throughout the library.  They were created to make the library warm and inviting and the kids just love all the lights.
This display was created to showcase some of the new books that were on our December reading list.
This is a holiday book display featuring class holiday books and another Guys Read Lego creation by my son.  If you look closely, the tree reads "Guys Read" and the snowman is made of Lego bricks as well.  These Lego displays have created quite the excitement among middle school students and I now have others begging to create some.  I think a great activity would be for students to create Lego figures of their favorite book characters and/or book covers.  The possibilities are endless!
This one is hard to see, but it says, "Need a New Book for the Holiday Break?  Try a Series or a Sequel!"  The books displayed are the top series books for middle school students.

Halloween Book Displays

These book displays were just a few that I put up during Halloween.  The Guy's Read display featured mummy's and included a joke about why guys like to read (because their mummies told them to).
This vampire display was made from my versatile baker's rack.  You can't see it in the picture, but it was lit up with bat lights and lanterns.
I included this Poe display because I love the classics and his stories still resonate with young adults.
This Twilight display was actually a collection of various vampire and werewolf  books.  The signs say "Vampire Lit--Love at First Bite!"  I closed the blinds and used a door mural from the dollar store as a backdrop.

This creepy guy was used to promote all of the horror/scary books in the library.  He was made from an old dress form, a pumpkin head and a mask.  We have a school-wide AR reading program, so I tried to make him a little less creepy with the signs.  His head lit up and the kids loved him.  I also added a couple of old books, spider webs and a black rat.  Thank goodness for the Dollar Store!  :)

Back to School Displays 2011

These are displays I created for our middle school library.  The tree was constructed from an old baker's rack that I bought off of Craig's List over the summer.  It has proved invaluable in terms of book displays.
This is my display for the William Allen White nominee books.  Our school has a yearly contest (started by our former awesome librarian, Sue Davison) for these books with a special field trip for students who read at least twelve titles.

This Guys Read Lego display was constructed by my son who continues to make them for each theme and season.  :)

Chick Lit--A middle school favorite!  :)
